Herts Community Energy is a CDA Herts programme helping villages and rural towns explore how they could generate energy locally and use the benefits within their community.

A Village Energy Scheme could bring together a village hall, homes and other local buildings. The community would shape what it wants the scheme to achieve, including whether it could support local causes.

Every place is different. We begin by listening to the community and exploring what may be possible before any decisions are made about a particular scheme.

Locally owned, with support from CDA Herts

The local community owns the decisions. CDA Herts brings people together and coordinates work, while specialist partners assess options and support delivery. Local generation, local benefit.

A community energy scheme may also offer different ways to fund the purchase and installation of equipment. The options would depend on the local proposal and the partners involved.

Your Journey to a Village Energy Scheme

Four stages: first conversation about the village; explore community ideas; assess technical, funding and ownership options; and, if viable and agreed locally, develop a scheme. The community decides whether to continue at each stage.
